Fundraising Ideas for churches
Fundraising ideas for today
Welcome to fundraising ideas for churches.
Whether you're fundraising for your church building, a youth project,
for repairs or a mission trip, here's a few ideas of what other
churches have successfully done to raise money:-
- Candles fundraising - these make ideal gifts and are
particularly easy to sell at Christmas time.
- Catalogue fundraising - simply give catalogues to members
and friends, profit can often be as high as 50% of sales.
Particularly effective just before Christmas.
- Discount cards - bulk buy discount cards for local stores
and sell on to members. The profit made goes to the
church.
- Garden party fundraising - invite friends round for a
sophisticated afternoon in the garden
- Jewelry - fundraising with a christian theme
- Movie night - rent a film, sell popcorn and drinks and enjoy
an evening together - and it's ideal for friends to come along
too
- Murder mystery evening/play - in just a few short weeks a
group of would-be thespians can create a show that will
leave your audience dying to know who the murderer is! If
this is run alongside a meal, this can be a lucrative event.
- Sponsored events - sports, children's, endurance, etc - you
name it, it's possible to hold it as a sponsored event
A particular favourite of mine is the church dinner or get together,
especially where this is some focus, such as a fundraising
auction. This can be a great time of fellowship and friendship as
well as raising money for a worth cause.

Building or Capital Project
If you're raising money for a major build, you'll need something of a
different approach.
Even if you've got someone within your church membership who is
happy to run the fund raising project for you, it might pay to take the
advice of a fundraising consultant.
A consultant can help you to see resources that you have right in
front of your eyes to help you succeed.
Applications to Trusts & Foundations
There's grant-making trusts in just about every area - your town,
city, county or state.
Making applications to these trusts and foundations requires some
skill in writing the right type of letter. The good news is that this
can be learned and there are plenty of books out there that offer a
step-by-step approach, including sample letters.
You can check out a sample fundraising letter that was actually
used by a church to raise nearly £3000 in funding towards the
repair of an organ.
Thanks for visiting!
